the diary of a fashion student: part 6

anthro the diary of a fashion student: part 6

Phew. What a week. Going from a work placement year to final year is pretty much like jumping into the deep end of the pool when you can barely swim. It’s been late nights galore here in my student flat (I share with three other fashion design students, an interior designer and advertising guy – very creative!) and many early mornings. I’ve been busy finishing off the Anthropologie design project which didn’t turn out as well as I’d hoped it to have done, I really must learn to illustrate better! Above is one of the final boards from the project where we have to describe in words and images the ideal customer for the brand. This is one of my fave parts of most projects, I think I really should go into brand management or something like that!

This week involved the first crit of final year where we have to show and talk about our work infront of the class, scary stuff. Does anyone else find it hard to put into words how they have designed a collection? Today we got a new project which is involves taking three charity shop garments and constructing one super garment from them all! Should be fun if it runs smoothly! I’m also spending today researching for another project; a menswear collection for Pierre Cardin. Hopefully my year on the menswear design team will come in handy! It’s good having a fresh start after the stress of the last project; we barely knew what day it was before the hand in!

Hope you all have a lovely week, hopefully post again soon if the work doesn’t kill me off! x

style on the run notice board copy dont report me missing just yet

Sorry for the utter lack of posts recently, this week have involved moving back to University and getting well and truly stuck into that summer work I keep going on about but not actually getting anywhere with. Please bear with me! The deadline is Monday so hopefully I’ll be back with a vengeance from then onwards. In the mean time here is a little snippet of my student bedroom wall here in Huddersfield, it’s the only part of the room I’ve have the time to make my own. Have a lovely weekend for me!

A little insight into what goes into pattern cutting and toiling a design. This project has taken a lot longer than I had anticipated; I must have been feeling optimistic when I was planning my time. 8 days until the deadline, the pressure is on! Never has the saying ‘ so much to do so little time’ been more appropriate! Why oh why do I leave everything until the very last minute.

Whilst most style bloggers and writers have been non-stop tweeting and posting about LFW, I have spent the past few days locked in my parent’s dining room which now resembles a small factory with sewing machine, pins, mannequin and ever-increasing stress levels. Pattern cutting and sewing are, for me, the worst part of studying fashion design! If you have been following my student diary feature you’ll know all about the projects I need to complete before I even start the new term – what lovely lecturers I have but I suppose it will be for my own good… Hours of intense sewing calls for comfy clothing that you wouldn’t be seen dead wearing outside / on your supposedly stylish blog, so it was nice to have a break today and wear this little ensemble – Primark lace dress, freebie cardi from my interning ( I just love the yarn fringing!), gift heart locket and urban outfitters shoes.

Happy Saturday boys and girls!

topshop14 from catwalk to closet

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel that Topshop online is getting better and better? I was first impressed with the feature that allowed customers to buy entire outfits from the Oxford Street store windows. Now Topshop is giving us the chance to see how the lovely ladies who work in the Head Office are wearing garments from the AW10 collection in a feature called ‘From Catwalk to Closet‘. I think it’s pretty cool to see behind-the-scenes of my favourite brands, and Topshop are really allowing their loyal followers to have a sneak into their world. If you are interested in this, you really must see their blog, where recently they have been posting about the build up to the unique SS11 collection – exciting stuff!

With just 5 days left until I move back to Huddersfield to complete my fashion degree, I am starting to think about how to personalise my bedroom in the student halls. I love this part of September, filling my room with thrifted nik naks and photographs of friends from home.

This weekend my sister moved to Blackpool for her first year studying Photography. She picked up this quirky cushion for her new room from than none other than her local Primark store, for a bargainous £3.00! I think I’ll be heading there myself this week to bag this cushion for myself too; I’m sure the ‘STAY COOL AND CHILL OUT’ mantra will help get me through the stressful year ahead!
